1. Justify how this project/activity/assignment meets the standard, using evidence from the standard itself to demonstrate your mastery and/or understanding.
This assignment required us to gather information from multiple sources, as standard W.8.8 requires us to. We also paraphrased or quoted from these sources, avoiding plagiarism. We had to cite textual evidence from the book and these sources, as required in standard Rl.8.1. We also wrote a summary of the theme and the book in the magazine as a review, as required to analyze in Rl.8.2. In the magazine, we made connections between the book and real life, etc., as required in Rl.8.3.
2. Elaborate on at least 1 skill and/or strength you feel you gained from completing this project. (Coloring and or drawing are not skills to write about - elaborate on life skills you can take out of this project)
From this assignment, I now know how to gather information from other sources without copying direct from text, and I know how to avoid plagiarism. I feel like I said cite evidence from texts better, because this magazine we had to create contained a lot of that. I feel like I have improved very much in those areas, citing evidence and using quotes to show textual evidence from sources, text and digital. These skills will come in handy later on in college where we have to write a ton of essays and etc.
3. Upon reflecting on your work/score, what is ONE area of work you could have done better on? How will improving in this area benefit future work/projects? (Coloring and or drawing are not skills to write about - research skills, time management, etc…)
I feel like I could have done better managing my time, for I rushed this magazine very much and did not get all the detail I would have liked to in the first place. This magazine lacks a lot of information and is quite simplistic. I wish I could have used time management to input all the detail I could have by starting this project earlier. From now on, I know that I can stop repeating my time management mistakes.
4. How will you presently apply the content and skills you learned from this assignment in the real world? (outside of the classroom, particularly in today’s society) Make connections between the content and your life.
I can use my knowledge of the Japanese - American internment camps for history classes in the future. Using context clues and being able to cite evidence comes in handy in future essays and assignments when I have to show evidence to support my details.
