Cheerio and Matter Demonstration
Standard: 3e. I know that in solids the atoms are closely locked in position and can only vibrate; in liquids the atoms and molecules are more loosely connected & can collide with and move past one another; and in gases the atoms and molecules are free to move independently, colliding frequently.
1. Justify how this project/activity/assignment meets the standard, using evidence from the standard itself to demonstrate your mastery and/or understanding.
Standard 3e asks for me to know the molecular movements of each states of matter. This assignment asked for me to make models of cheerios to demonstrate the movement of solids, liquids, or gases. With the cheerios, I demonstrated that the atoms in solids are closely packed together and can only vibrate, the atoms in liquids collide and move past each other, and the atoms in gases move about freely.
2. Elaborate on at least 1 skill and/or strength you feel you gained from completing this project.
By completing this project, I was able to learn about the molecular movement of the states of matter. Because of this assignment, I was able to visually see what the molecular movements look like. From this project, I was able to learn about molecular movement. now I know what each states of matter's molecular movements look like.
3. Upon reflecting on your work/score, what is ONE area of work you could have done better on? How will improving in this area benefit future work/projects?
I personally think I could have been more descriptive about each molecular movement in the descriptions we had to fill in about the states of matter. I did a decent job on the descriptions, but I feel as if I could have been more descriptive.
4. How will you presently apply the content and skills you learned from this assignment in the real world, outside the classroom? Make connections between the content and your life.
Whenever I look around me, I can determine the way the atoms in solids, gases, and liquids move about. This will also become helpful in future classes when I'm learning in depth about things like this. I can know the difference between solids, liquids, and gases.
