3. Examine the characteristics of white Southern society and how the physical environment influenced events and conditions prior to the Civil War.
4. Compare the lives of and opportunities for free blacks in the North with those of free blacks in the South

1) Justify how this project/activity/assignment meets the standard, using evidence from the standard itself to demonstrate your mastery and/or understanding.
The standards relate to this project, because we had to research on the lives of the African Americans in order to complete this brochure. We compared the similarities and differences of the African Americans in the North and South. We also wrote info on their daily life and struggles. The standard asks for us to know about African Americans from the 1800s to the mid-1800s, and this brochure asked for me to write information about them.
2) Elaborate on at least 1 skill and/or strength you feel you gained from completing this project. (Coloring and or drawing are not skills to write about - elaborate on life skills you can take out of this project
From this assignment, I was able to learn about the struggles of African Americans. I got to gain knowledge about slavery from 1800 to the mid-1800s. I also got to gain more practice in making brochures.
3) Upon reflecting on your work/score, what is ONE area of work you could have done better on? How will improving in this area benefit future work/projects? (Coloring and or drawing are not skills to write about - research skills, time management, etc..
I could have done better is being more descriptive and additive on the facts. For each section, most of my information was bullet pointed, and I feel as if I could have wrote some descriptive sentences here and there to make it interesting. I also could have made the words into my own, since most of them were just from the textbook.
4) How will you presently apply the content and skills you learned from this assignment in the real world (outside of the classroom, particularly in today's society). Make connections between the content and you life.
In the real world I could start being more knowledgeable to slavery and the history of America, since I live in America. Since I gained more experience in making brochures, later on in life, I could be creating brochures for a company. Also, if the topic of slavery comes up in future history classes, I will have a general idea of what slavery is like.
